    I never would've guessed

I got a set of four Beach Boys CDs from the library, and Todd has taken to listening to them.  I never would have predicted that!

    A&R Tile Warehouse

We've been really unhappy with the "customer service" at A&R Tile Warehouse.
Just thought you might want to know.
I wish someone had told us!

    birthday

It was really encouraging to be supported by so many friends (at my birthday party).  I'm deeply touched.  It's a good way to start a new decade.
I was feeling physically and emotionally lousy in the morning, but that was not birthday-related.  By evening I felt okay.
I think there were around 48 people at the party.  The space worked out well - lots of room to play table games.  The dance floor was quite empty, though.
There was a raucous game of Dutch Blitz going on at some point.  I also saw Scrabble, dominoes, Settlers, Sequence, Rook, and Blockus happening.  And a lot of chatting.
Many people gave me cards, which is one of my love-language things.  Tiana decorated an amazing Settlers-inspired cake.
Judy brought such a cute balloon bouquet! Mary, Jane, & my mom brought food.
I had a lovely big birthday circle; most people in the circle weren't dancers but at least they came and made a circle and clapped!
Now I am tired.  Sleepy.  It doesn't feel much different to be 40.  Matt's mom chatted with me a bit in the morning about turning 40, and 50, and 55.  I honestly don't mind the number, but to think that my life is half over is hard in terms of: what have I done with it so far?

    applying reality television to life...

I'm reading Renovation of the Heart (by Dallas Willard & Randy Frazee) and I really liked the idea that my new life in Christ involves a renovation of the heart, likened to Trading Spaces "- in which Christ comes in and rearranges the character and priorities of our inner lives."

a reason to go to the WAG

I heard about this exhibit on the radio, and I do not want to miss it!  The Winnipeg Art Gallery has Illuminating the Word: The Saint John's Bible from April 12 to June 8; it is the only Canadian gallery that is getting it.
Supposedly a must-see for anyone who likes art, likes books, or who likes the Bible, so I'm going!  Who else wants to come?  (Show&Save has a WAG coupon!)

winnipeg comedy festival: Best of the Fest

We should have quit while we were ahead.   Saturday evening's show was definitely not the best of the festival.  Of course, it can't really be that since they set the lineup long before the festival begins.
It was hosted by John Wing.
George Westerholm was amazing on guitar, but it is hard to follow up something as great as last year's song, "Trevor."
Kevin McGrath was good, and didn't repeat any material from Wednesday.
I was glad that Derek Edwards made an unscheduled appearance since he was definitely the highlight of the evening.
Most of the rest of the comedians were extremely crude.
Lesson learned: don't go to a show that begins after 10 p.m.

    hospitality-challenged

Sadly true, so please call before you come.
But come!  Otherwise I'll have NO reason to clean!

comedy festival: Big Daddy Tazz & friends

We were able to haul some friends along with us to this show, and laughter is always better when shared!
It was a good evening, except for the uncomfortable seating at the Gas Station Theatre.
Tazz hosted, and was funny and very likable.  Can't go wrong with Tazz.
We'd seen Jason Beck open at Rumors, and the material hadn't changed much.
Heather Witherden didn't seem very experienced, but my main complaint is that she was crude.
Warren Persowich is a psychologist and a comedian.  He had some funny stuff but I felt that he went on a bit longer than the funny did.
Brad Oswald was better than I expected.
Chantal Marostica was offbeat and great!
Simon Rackoff wasn't on the bill, but he was a welcome addition!  Funny guy.
Rachel Sommers was good but didn't have a lot of energy.
Dean Jenkinson never disappoints.  I just wish they'd left him a little more time!
Best of this show: Big Daddy, Chantal, Simon, & Dean.

    comedy festival Opening Night show

Geri Hall hosted, and she attempted to be funny but did not succeed.
Don Kelly was first up, and he had some funny stuff but most of it I'd heard already (on CBC radio?).
Kevin McGrath was mostly entertaining, and he did good voices.
Mrs. Hughes was the highlight!  She was hilARious!  I laughed so much that I couldn't breathe.
Roman Danylo was also really funny.

Best of this show: Mrs. Hughes and Roman.

    commitment prayer (by Sharlande Sledge)

    Create in each of us
    a kneeling place,
    where we may empty ourselves
    of our self-importance
    and become vulnerable
    to Your Word to us.
Help us set our faces firmly
    against friendly suggestions
    for safe, expedient lives,
and toward the risk of discipleship.
    Loosen our grip on certainties
    that smother possibilities.
    Forgive our resistance to change...

    I am being ridiculous

My notebook is too nice to write in.
Does anyone else have this problem?

My DH gave me a lovely Italian leatherbound lined notebook quite a while ago.  I can't bring myself to actually write anything in it.  What would be worthy of such an elegant journal?  sheesh!

    fruity

A pineapple is easy once you've cut it up!
And where is this guy getting his tasty peaches from?  He must live in a  peach-friendly climate.

this will be a funny week

Well, it better be a funny week!  We bought tickets for three of the comedy festival shows, so I am expecting laughs and lots of 'em.

    surround yourself with beauty

This bit of bathroom-reno has reacquainted me with some of our spectacularly ugly rags!
    <shudder>
Hopefully the end product will be 'beautiful' though!
