    report

It has been a long blog-break...

PLEx6 was great!  PHOTOS  PHOTOS  PHOTOS    PHOTOS
However, the live music wasn't a bit hit with me; for the most part I preferred the DJ'ed music during the bands' breaks.  Solomon Douglas was the exception!!  So glad they got him out for a few days!
And they spent way too much time on the J&J contests, during which I resented having to watch, not dance (not that I wanted to be in a J&J - just that they took up too many good songs with the contests).

The week at the lake was nice.   PHOTOS   PHOTOS
The weather was not warm, which meant we'd packed the wrong clothes mostly.  However, we built fires and read books and played games and went for walks and watched a few DVDs.  Lyndon rode his bike a lot.
We dragged Todd to the stables for his first horseback riding experience.  He did fine, but my horse ("Buck") threw me off about 8 minutes into the hour's ride.  I was bruised, but fine.  Weirdest part was that split second of deciding whether to try to stay on or be launched.
Lyndon, Todd, & I got drenched during one of our walks.  Diehls were smart enough to stay in the cabin for that one.
Anni played in the lake regardless of air temps, and even regardless of leeches.
Todd & Ben played a lot of XBox, but that's to be expected with those two guys.
Tiana's mom came out on Tuesday, Mike & Carla & family stopped by for a few hours, and Lyndon's whole family came out on Friday.  Mom brought 2 pies and a cake.  Mmmmmm...
We taught Mike, Tiana, and Emily how to play Fluxx.

Scott, Elisa, & Lauren taught us how to play their new game, Pirate's Cove.

We also played Settlers and Bohnanza and Carcassonne.

Now we're back to normal schedules of Kinetic practice and WT practice.
We got to briefly see Gina (and baby bump and Andy) on Tuesday.
I need to get busy prepping for the school year.  <sigh>

    the waiting is over

So much stuff coming up that I've been looking forward to!

Tonight is the start of PLEx6, the sixth Prairie Lindy exchange, a time of lots of dancing and no classes or workshops!  We have to miss the last day of Plex6, but that's okay because...

On Sunday we are  heading to the lake for a week.  I plan to read a lot of books, play a lot of games, and laugh a lot with my family and friends.

Two days after we return from the Whiteshell, I get to see Gina!  ...oh, and Andy too.  But somehow I think Andy will forgive me for being more excited about seeing Gina.

Now I just have to figure out how to survive the end-of-August, start-of-school letdown that will want to follow the end of all these anticipated events.

    aging

I'm definitely aging, but not gracefully.

Actually, I'm not entirely sure what that would look like for me.  Physically, I've only ever been described as "cute" - and how can "cute" age gracefully?  Ever seen a cute-ish granny?

Getting up every morning, there are new aches.  What's up with that?  Aren't I too young to be this pitiful?

They're printing instructions and labels smaller and smaller, too.  Todd regularly scoffs at my eyesight when he has to read laundry care instructions to me, or tell me how often I can take a pill.

    *sigh*

    yesterday was Thankful Thursday

I kept thinking I should do this, but never did.  So here goes:
    • I'm thankful that there are no wasps living in our yard this year.
    • I am thankful for my friends.
    • I'm thankful for the warmth of summer!
    • I am thankful for ibuprofen.
    • I am thankful that we still have a week of vacation coming.
    • I'm thankful for a husband who makes applecrisp.
    • I am thankful that our car loan is almost paid off.
    • I'm thankful that water can taste so good.
    • I am thankful for chances to dance to live music.
    • I'm thankful that I don't have to wear kneesocks!

    no more excuses

I liked this post of Lara's.
I am getting close to her attitude.
I truly don't care what state someone else's home is in when I am there.  So why should I care what state mine is in before I open our door to friends?

    The Fate of Mice

I was very disappointed yesterday when the Susan Palwick book on hold for me at the library was a collection of short stories.  I'd never met a short story that I liked.
However, last night's insomnia means that I've finished the book already, and I now have to change my opinion.  There are some good stories in this book!
I'd read two of her other books: Flying in Place (well written, but a horrible topic) and The Necessary Beggar (fascinating and unique).
